Pre-historic family the Croods needs a new place to live and is ecstatic at first when they stumble upon an unspoiled walled-in paradise that has everything they need. Unfortunately, it is already occupied by another family, the Bettermans. With their elaborate tree house, amazing inventions and irrigated acres of fresh produce, they claim that they are better and more evolved than the Croods. Tensions soon escalate between the modern family and the cave family. But when a new threat throws the two families on an unexpected adventure, it forces them to set aside their differences and work together.

Ketika keluarga pra-sejarah Croods mengembara untuk mencari tempat tinggal yang baru, mereka berdepan cabaran terbesar sejak meninggalkan gua mereka: sebuah keluarga lain. Keluarga yang menggelar diri mereka sebagai Bettermans itu mendakwa mereka lebih hebat dan lebih berkembang berbanding keluarga Croods, dengan ciptaan-ciptaan terbaru serta tanaman-tanaman segar. Hubungan kedua-dua pihak agak tegang memandangkan perbezaan ketara antara keluarga pra-sejarah dan keluarga moden itu. Namun bukan itu sahaja masalah yang perlu mereka hadapi kerana terdapat satu ancaman baru yang menanti mereka di dunia luar.
