Voices In The Wind (TWJFS)

The "Wind Phone" is a real, unconnected telephone booth in Otsuchi, Iwate prefecture. Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, over 30,000 people have visited to speak with lost loved ones - and for those living with such grief, this film stands gently by their side. Haru, a high school student from Otsuchi, goes to live with her aunt in Hiroshima after the disaster, but her heart stays behind. She sets off hitchhiking back to her hometown, meeting and parting with many people along the way. The Wind Phone was installed in 2011 by garden designer Itaru Sasaki, longing to speak with his deceased cousin. Word spread quietly, and it became known as "the phone connected to heaven" - a place where people still come simply to be heard.
