Double Layered Town / Making A Song To Replace Our Positions (JFF+)

A monumentally large earthquake occurred in the Tohoku region of Japan in March 2011. Tsunamis swallowed up towns and the city of Rikuzentakata, which faces the Pacific Ocean, was also greatly impacted. In 2018, four young people visit the area to listen to the stories of the people who live in the new town that was built on top of the land that was devastated. They record the memories of the people they encounter and try to share their experiences. A moving and sui generis documentary that aims to pass down the pain of others to later generations by preserving the memories of tragedy and by borrowing from the power of storytelling.
