11 Mar – Director Mamat Khalid will be collaborating with well-known local producer David Teo via Metrowealth Pictures to produce a musical film focusing on the 1960's era of the 'pop yeh yeh' music phenomenon. The story will be conceptualised with the help of Mamat's frequent scriptwriting collaborator, Aziz M. Osman. With the winning combination of Mamat, Aziz and David, the film is something that movie lovers would look forward to. While no definite details have been revealed yet, the story is said to be based on the experiences of Aziz's late father, M. Osman, who is known to have been responsible for popularising local rock-and-roll music as well as the genre of pop yeh yeh. Mamat's choice to work with David from MIG on this musical proves that he is open to work with any party. "I'm often tied with Grand Brilliance Sdn Bhd (GB) and Tayangan Unggul Sdn Bhd (TUSB) but this time, I've chosen to work with MIG, which proves that I'm not really tied to any one company. I am always willing to work with any producer who is willing to give me the space to express my creativity freely," he said.
Currently, Mamat Khalid is busy working on his next project, "Werewolf Dari Bangladesh". But the director is not stopping at one movie in the works, other work-in-progress by Mamat include "Si Langkang" and "Zombie Ultimatum" as well as the soon-to-be released "Apokalips", "Rentaz", "Zombie Kilang Biskut" and "Amukan Buas Frankestein Tempatan". For now, fans will have to contend themselves with "Rock Oo! Rimba Bara Kembali!", which is currently showing in cinemas nationwide.
