1 Jul – Favourite Bollywood film hotspot TGV CapSquare at PIKOM ICT Mall CapSquare along Jalan Munshi Abdullah in Kuala Lumpur closes today, 1 July 2013, after operating for close to six years.
As of now, the older tenants have moved out or are in the midst of running clearance sales, while IT retailers are fast in moving in. According to a TGV spokesperson, ""It is most unfortunate that we are bidding farewell to this location, however considering the new management's plans for this place, it was a mutual decision for all the tenants and the management to terminate our tenancy agreements".
Apart from TGV CapSquare, its neighbouring cinemas, Odeon KL and the newly renovated Lotus Five Star (LFS) Coliseum KL both located along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman also screens Bollywood films. TGV CapSquare now joins the fate of the other Bollywood cinema hotspots of yesteryears; the Wilayah Complex cinema which closed 15 years ago, the cinema at Central Market which closed 10 years back as well as Petaling Street's famous REX cinema. A representative from Odeon Cinemas told Cinema Online that to meet the demand of the Bollywood moviegoers, their Odeon KL cinema will now be focusing more on Hindi titles, whereas before it only played selected big Bollywood films as well as Tamil films. TGV CapSquare opened on 20 December 2007, it was the 11th location for the cinema chain. TGV plans to open several locations by this year's end and in 2014, they are; Cheras Sentral Shopping Mall in KL, Gurney Paragon in Penang and another in Miri, Sarawak. TGV will also be opening an 8-screen cinema at the re-constructed, formerly known- Jaya Shopping Centre building at Section 14, Petaling Jaya which aims to be completed by next year.
