12 Sep – It seems that Lionsgate and Millennium have finally decided on an Asian-American actor to play Major Ben Daimio in the "Hellboy" reboot, but is it the right Asian? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Daniel Dae Kim, known for his roles in "Lost" and "Hawaii Five-0", is currently in talks to play Daimio in the reboot. The role was previously left vacant by "Deadpool's" Ed Skrein following fans' outcry over the whitewashing controversy, as Skrein is white while the comic book character is Japanese-American. However, it is important to note that Kim, who is set to portray the rugged military member with the ability to shape-shift as a jaguar, is Korean-American. The 49-year-old actor recently exited CBS' "Hawaiian Five-0" with co-star Grace Park after unsuccessfully seeking equal pay with co-stars Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan. He wrote on Facebook addressing his exit, stating "The path to equality is rarely easy. But I hope you can be excited for the future. I am". He is also serving as executive producer for the upcoming series "The Good Doctor", starring Freddie Highmore. If a deal is reached on "Hellboy", Kim will be on board alongside David Harbour, Milla Jovovich and Ian McShane, with "Game of Thrones" Neil Marshall directing the reboot.
