Zombies rule at Zombieland

Zombies raid Cathay Damansara during "Zombieland" preview night.

9 Dec – Moviegoers got into the spirit of the undead last night as they dressed to the nines as zombies during the preview screening of Woody Harrelson's horror-comedy "Zombieland" held at Cathay Cineplex Damansara. Fully clad in their best bloody and ragged attire, Cinema Online gave each an exclusive "Zombieland" t-shirt and two preview passes to the movie screening at 9.30pm. The Top 5 best dressed zombies for the night was given an extra prize on top of the t-shirt and passes. Interestingly enough, zombie slayers too appeared and playfully fend off any misbehaved zombies with a baseball bat and a golf club.

According to Box Office Mojo, the film ruled the box office on opening weekend (Oct 1-4) in North America and within the realm of zombie movies, it had the second highest-grossing start on record behind the "Dawn Of The Dead" remake. Soon after weeks of speculation on a possible sequel, Sony Pictures has confirmed that they have closed a deal with "Zombieland" producer Gavin Poline and director Ruben Fleisher to return for a 3-D sequel. Numerous online reports announced that actors Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg are in negotiations to reprise their roles as the pair of post-apocalyptic survivors, while Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are already working on the sequel's screenplay.

Cinema Online's "Zombieland" contest winners caught the preview and was asked later on what they thought of the movie, would they catch the sequel and how many stars would they rate it out of five.

Arnood Koay: Very funny! The movie was very interesting even though the storyline wasn't impressive. If there was a sequel, I'd be sure to watch it. I'd give this movie 4 stars.
Duncan Lee (R): One thing good about this is that it's really funny. But sadly, I felt that the censorship board killed off the film. Good to know they're making a sequel! I just hope the runtime will be longer then. I'd rate the movie 3.5 stars. Lim Huey Chen: It was nice and interesting to see how they fight off zombies and try to survive being in a place called Zombieland - love the name. I'd rate it with 3 stars and would catch the sequel if it does come out.

"Zombieland" opens in cinemas nationwide on 10 December 2009!
