8 Mar – Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland" delivered a phenomenal US$116.3 million on opening weekend at the US box office, according to estimates from Box Office Mojo. It was a figure that had grossed more in just three days, than the total gross of any other 2010 release and had ended Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" two-week reign at the top of the box office, which fell to third place with US$13.3 million. Available in 3D, audiences clamoured to cinemas over the weekend to catch Alice's anticipated second adventure into Underland, whereby over US$80 million of "Alice in Wonderland"'s opening was viewed through the 3D looking glass, topping "Avatar"'s US$55 million as the biggest 3D launch ever. Marked as Burton's seventh collaboration with actor Johnny Depp, it was their biggest debut yet, eclipsing their previous high together, "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" (US$56.2 million). According to Walt Disney Pictures in Malaysia, the film had the highest opening weekend for a 3D movie in Malaysia, surpassing "Avatar" even, while the normal version opens a week later on 11 March. However, competition looms near as "Twilight" sensation Robert Pattinson's new movie "Remember Me" opens this weekend.
