28 Apr – Steven Spielberg has been announced to direct the live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl's children's book, "The BFG" for DreamWorks. According to Collider, the studio acquired the rights to the children's book back in 2011 with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall attached as producers while screenwriter Melissa Mathison is in charge of the script. The award-winning director will start production on "The BFG" in early 2015 for a 2016 release.
Published in 1982 and illustrated by Quentin Blake, "The BFG" is an abbreviation of "The Big, Friendly Giant". The book is an expansion of a story told in an earlier Dahl book titled "Danny, The Champion Of The World". The story revolves around a young girl named Sophie who is carried off in the middle of the night by the BFG, but thankfully, he turns out to be too nice and jumbly. She befriends the BFG, and even enlists his help when she hears that the man-eating giants are off to England to swallow a few nice little children. Aside from "The BFG", Spielberg is also attached to direct a thriller with Tom Hanks set amid the Cold War, "The Kidnapping Of Edgardo Mortara", "Robopocalypse", a West Side Story remake, and "Montezuma".
