10 Mar – The science-fiction film about a robot named "Chappie" makes an impressive big screen debut last weekend as it opens at number one in the U.S. and Malaysia, while "Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen" defends its first place position on the Singapore box office weekend chart for 5 to 8 March 2015. "Chappie", the Hugh Jackman and Dev Patel-starrer, comes alive at number one with its collection of USD13.3 million. Will Smith and Margot Robbie lose their "Focus", and the movie slips down to the second spot, making a weekend gross of USD10 million. Another new release, "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" – sequel to 2012's "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", is the third best during its opening weekend, grossing USD8.5 million.
In Malaysia, two new releases conquer the top two spots, with "Chappie" emerging as the champion, while second place is inhabited by SpongeBob and the Bikini Bottom gang as they return in "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water". Former first place conqueror, "Kingsman: The Secret Service", falls two places last weekend and lands in third. In Singapore, "Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen" still makes no leap from its top spot on the chart. Meanwhile, "Chappie" and "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" both make the top three on their opening weekend, placing second and third, respectively. Last weekend also saw the release of the following movies in Malaysia: "Kepong Gangster 2", "The Lazarus Effect", "Werewolf Dari Bangladesh", "Enakkul Oruvan" and "Playing It Cool".
