12 Jul – "Cold War 2" needs no warming up at the box office, it has been breaking records left and right since its release last weekend.
The movie, released on 8 July in Malaysia in 107 cinemas nationwide, has grossed almost RM4 million at the local box office.
In comparison to the first movie, 2012's "Cold War", which surpassed RM5 million in just 11 days – making it the highest-grossing Chinese movie screened in Malaysia in three years during the time, it is highly likely for the recently released sequel to surpass the first movie's local box office collection.
The police action sequel has also been doing well in its homeland of Hong Kong. It opened on 8 July with HKD5.4 million, breaking the opening day record of Stephen Chow's "The Mermaid". It has since made HKD14 million in Hong Kong.
Over in China, the movie grossed RMB300 million to become the highest grossing Hong Kong cop action movie.
Directed by Longman Leung and Sunny Luk, "Cold War 2" stars Chow Yun Fat, Aaron Kwok, Eddie Peng, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Aarif Rahman and Charlie Young.
