31 Jan - Ben Affleck may no longer be playing Batman but that doesn't mean he's not excited for the upcoming DC movie "The Batman", as evidenced by his latest Tweet. "Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life," he posted, while sharing the link to Deadline's latest update on the movie's release date. As stated there, "The Batman" is set to fly onto the big screen in 2021. Warner Bros. has set 25 June of that year for the movie's release. Of course, since Affleck pulled out as director in January 2017 and was replaced by Matt Reeves a month later, there's been speculation on whether he was also leaving his Caped Crusader role. Unfortunately for fans who liked his performance in "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice", "Suicide Squad" and "Justice League" and have been hoping he'll stay on, they won't be able to see Batfleck in future DC movies anymore. This is because the new movie, which Reeves is writing but will not base it on Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One" comic, will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne. Still, Affleck fans can see him starring next in the movie adaptation of Kate Alice Marshall's novel "I Am Still Alive", which he is also producing. He is also starring in the Gavin O'Connor-directed "Torrance".
"The Batman" isn't the only movie on the Dark Knight that Warner Bros. is reportedly working on, as Geeks WorldWide brings word that an animated "Batman Beyond" movie is currently in the works by the Warner Animation Group for the big screen. Based on the '90s series of the same name, which ran for 52 episodes until December 2001, it follows high school student Terry McGinnis who takes on the superhero role after Bruce Wayne's retirement in 2039. The animated movie is expected to be released in 2020. Fans shouldn't get their hopes up just yet though, since the studio has revealed its latest release schedule for its DC and other titles, and that movie is not on it. What is confirmed, aside from the 2021 "The Batman", is "The Shining" sequel "Doctor Sleep" has been moved from 24 January 2020 to 8 November 2019 and Robert Zemeckis' Anne Hathaway-starring "The Witches" has been scheduled for 16 October 2020. "DC Super Pets" is opening on 21 May 2021 and "The Suicide Squad", which James Gunn is writing and now in talks to direct, is releasing on 6 August 2021. There are two untitled projects slotted for 16 July 2021 and 1 October 2021.
